6 WWII vets in Tennessee to be honored by France

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Six World War II veterans from Tennessee will be honored Thursday in Nashville by the consul general of France.

They will receive the Legion of Honor from Consul General Pascal Le Deunff of Atlanta for liberating France in 1944-45.

They are Joe Thompson of Nashville; Thomas Harris of Spring Hill; Beverly Morris of Hermitage; Gordon Strevel of Knoxville; Samuel Fain of Jefferson City; and Murel Winans of Chattanooga.

The Legion of Honor is the highest honor in France for service to the French Republic. Recipients are designated by President Nicolas Sarkozy.
