9 Hamilton County precincts see 0 voters

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Nine precincts in Hamilton County saw zero voters on Super Tuesday and another 19 had fewer than 10 ballots cast.

Four of the nine precincts where no one voted were empty for the second straight Presidential primary. But the problem may be more one of bureaucracy than voter enthusiasm. Those four precincts have only 52 registered voters combined.

There are reports that some have zero, but are necessary due to the county's geography and the mismatched political lines of city, county, state and federal districts.

Each precinct requires a worker, who's paid $100, and an officer, who earns another $160.

Hamilton County Elections Administrator Charlotte Mullis-Morgan said the election commission wants to reduce the number of small precincts as it draws new lines based on the 2010 census.
