UNICOI, Tenn. (AP) -- City officials in a small but growing East Tennessee community are discussing the formation of their own police force.
Unicoi Mayor Johnny Lynch told the Johnson City Press that the city has seen a recent increase in complaints about speeding and illegal parking.
He said the town is growing and with liquor stores on the way, Unicoi residents have been asking about more police protection.
He says the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department would continue to patrol in the area, but a city police force would add supplemental protection.
The idea is in preliminary stages, but would get more discussion during budget workshops in May.
