NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A number of free activities at The Hermitage will commemorate the 198th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans on Tuesday.

The plantation on Nashville's east edge was the home of President Andrew Jackson, who made his mark as a military leader during the War of 1812.

A wreath will be laid at Jackson's tomb at 10 a.m., followed by a book signing by Jon Meacham, author of "Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power" and "American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House."

At 2 p.m., there will be a lecture, "Old Hickory and the Natchez Expedition of Early 1813," by Tom Kanon.

All during the day, children can take part in activities and crafts and see a living history presentation.
