SOMERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials with Le Bonheur Children's Hospital say a nurse and a respiratory therapist are dead after a medical helicopter crashed and burned on the outskirts of Somerville in West Tennessee.
Somerville Police Chief Ricky Hoskins says the aircraft crashed into a field early Tuesday. There was no immediate word on the condition of the pilot.
A hospital spokeswoman said in an email that Le Bonheur received reports at around 6:20 a.m. that the Hospital Wing helicopter was not in regular contact.
The helicopter had been flying to pick up a patient in Bolivar. There was not a patient on board when it crashed.
Another Hospital Wing helicopter crashed in West Tennessee in 2010 when the pilot tried to outrun a storm. That crash killed the pilot and two nurses.
