ELIZABETHTON,Tenn. (AP) -- A public defender has been appointed for a Tennessee teenager charged as an adult with stabbing to death a classmate in December.
The Elizabethton Star reported that Judge Stacy Street set a Dec. 4 deadline for motions in the case of 15-year-old Nicholas Willen. Willen is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder after a Dec. 12, 2012 incident in Carter County.
Police say Happy Valley High School student Elijah McKinney, 16-, died as a result of injuries sustained in a stabbing.
Willen will appear in court again in January when a trial date will be set. Street expects the trial will take place in June.
