CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A Hamilton County grand jury has indicted a 28-year-old woman in the death of her 3-month-old niece.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/X8ahKc ), Jessica Fax is charged with felony murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.
Fax was caring for Mia Elizabeth Fry on Oct. 9 while the baby's parents worked. Jeremy Fry, the child's father, discovered her dead about 7 a.m. A medical examination found the baby had been dead for between six and eight hours by then.
Authorities said Fax did not call an ambulance after the child received five major skull fractures.
Investigators said it wasn't clear what happened. Fax initially said she dropped the baby onto the carpet.
