Austin-East Gets tech grant boost

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - School officials at Austin East Magnet High School are surprising Sophomores with a major tech announcement.

Austin-East is now allowed by the Tennessee Department of Education to extend its School Improvement Grant to in the English department.

The SIG grant will fund 160 Apple iPad 3s for the Sophomore class for English II.

Students will have their textbooks on their iPads, and access to many literacy apps.

The State Department approved funding to improve wireless internet at the high school.
