Autism groups working to offer specialty license plate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A new license plate could soon be available to benefit autism organizations across Tennessee - if 1000 plates are pre-sold.

The Autism Society of Middle Tennessee says two Tennessee mothers - one from Knoxville - encouraged state lawmakers to pass the bill approving the plate, and two more Tennessee mothers designed it.

The plates are $35 in addition to normal tag fees, and proceeds will be split between the Autism Society of East Tennessee, the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee and the Autism Society of the Mid-South, which serves West Tennessee.

1000 of the plates must be pre-sold before it can be produced.
