MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Vocalist Tia Henderson and seven of her fellow students at the Stax Music Academy have been chosen for a prestigious summer music program at a Boston school.
The 17-year-old from Bartlett told The Commercial Appeal singing is how she expresses how she feels. Tia is joined by Christian Dukes, who is also a current Stax student, and graduates Tangela Mathis, Andrew McNeill, Jeremy Wright, Carl Maguire, Alan Maguire and Justin Hicks.
They will take part in the performance program at Berklee College of Music.
Stax songwriting teacher Randy Haspel said not only does Tia have a beautiful voice, but she is a leader who other students look up to.
