MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Once again, police and prosecutors have shut down a Beale Street nightclub that has been the site of numerous incidents of violence and shootings for two decades.

Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich, Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and Memphis police officials on Thursday announced that Club Crave at 380 Beale St. has been closed as a public nuisance.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the club was called Plush Club in July 2011 when it was shut down after a nuisance complaint and financial lawsuit were filed. The club reopened two months later. Since 1992, 21 people have been shot in or around the club with the last shooting on Christmas Eve, leaving one man dead and two others injured.
