Bedridden victim dies in Carter County house fire

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) -- A house fire in Carter County has killed a woman.

The Johnson City Press reported the blaze broke out in a home in the Roan Mountain community.

The victim was identified as 58-year-old Jackie Malone Hampton. Firefighters said her family operated a leather craft shop adjacent to the house and her son found the house on fire when he went to check on her.

The fire on Friday was too hot for family members to rescue Hampton, who was bedridden.
