JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Johnson City have arrested a former bookkeeper on charges that she stole from her employer.
Penny Freeman of Elizabethton is charged with theft over $60,000.
According to the Johnson City Press, investigators said Freeman took a total of $221,000 by writing checks to herself while working as a bookkeeper at Baird Machine Company in 2009 and 2010.
Police said the business owner confronted Freeman with the thefts and she promised to repay the money, but did not. Freeman will be arraigned in Criminal Court later this month.
