Brush fires damage home, barn in Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Brush fires that broke out within minutes of each other on a windy day have damaged structures in Hamilton County.

The first blaze on Sunday occurred as a Collegedale family was burning brush remaining from a storm last spring, according to WDEF-TV.

Sparks ignited a barn, which burned setting fire to a boat, a camper and a sport utility vehicle parked near it. Family members said they had a burn permit.

A short time later, firefighters were called to a brush fire in Red Bank That fire spread quickly along a ridge and endangered several homes, one of which was damaged. Traffic was rerouted so firefighters could haul more water to the scene. The cause wasn't clear.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
