KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Most of us know someone battling cancer. But what if we told you there's a way for your friend, loved one, or maybe even you to recover quicker?
Turns out there's a free service, right in your own backyard, that's waiting for you call for help.
A national non-profit called Cleaning For A Reason contracts with local cleaning businesses. Those cleaning businesses take on cancer patients like Debbi Thompson, and clean their homes while they go through chemotherapy.
Debbi signed up with the Cleaning Authority. They've been taking care of her in-home cleaning duties for months as she fights uterine cancer.
Debbi Thompson said, "It feels wonderful to sit down in the evening and not think I've got to find the energy and dust this room, I can sit down and concentrate my efforts on getting well."
What's more, Debbi's doctor, Dr. Brook Saunders, said the service takes care of tasks that most patients are too weak to do on their own.
And, he also said, "It also helps their mental outlook to remain positive which we know helps people have a better cure rate and recovery from cancer."
Debbi said, "I have a ten year old son and my focus has always been what steps do I have to take to make sure that I'm here, that's my mission... I'm working toward that day that's my goal I want to be healthy I want to have energy."
The energy and health, believe it or not, to clean her own home, all by herself.
