MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis Police have fatally shot a carjacking suspect who reached toward his waistband as he ran from officers.
WMC-TV, reported the incident occurred late Wednesday afternoon.
Police said a GPS tracking device led them to an intersection where they spotted the stolen vehicle. The man driving it struck another vehicle and then bailed out and ran. Police said the suspect reached toward the waistband of his pants and indicated he had a gun. An officer fired, striking him. The man was later pronounced dead at the Regional Medical Center.
Police did not immediately release the names of the suspect or the officer and have not said whether they found a gun on the suspect.
