ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A sheriff's deputy has fatally shot a man while investigating an auto body shop burglary.
The Tennessean reported Ashland City Police Chief Mark Coulon said one of his officers and a Cheatham County Sheriff's deputy responded to the burglary Monday night. Coulon said the deputy was confronted by a man who was carrying a knife and shot him. The man later died at a Nashville hospital.
The Ashland City officer who responded was William Casteleman. Sheriff's officials declined to identify the deputy while the TBI investigates the incident, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
The name of the man who was shot was not immediately released.
The break-in was at the L&P Body Shop near the U.S. Post Office Ashland City.
