CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A man whose shooting brought Clarksville police to a home has died and a responding officer has been wounded in an ambush.
The incident began Thursday morning when police were called because a man who had been shot was seeking help from people in the neighborhood. The Leaf-Chronicle quoted Clarksville Police spokesman Jim Knoll in reporting police followed a blood trail to a house, but were ambushed by a man hiding behind a door. The officers didn't return fire, but retreated to a bedroom with one officer wounded in the arm.
A SWAT team got the officers out using a ladder and the gunman eventually surrendered.
The man who was initially shot later died. It wasn't clear whether his wounds had been caused by the suspect.
