Conservator going to jail on sex, theft plea

CELINA, Tenn. (AP) -- A man who served as a court-appointed conservator for a mentally disabled couple has taken a plea bargain on theft and sexual battery charges.

According to The Tennessean, 76-year-old Walter Strong of Celina entered a guilty plea on Monday after prosecutors agreed to drop charges of rape by an authority figure.

Strong's attorney told Circuit Court Judge David A. Patterson it was unlikely his client could repay the $105,000 he admitted stealing from the couple. Patterson cautioned Strong that unless he made an effort at restitution, the court could send him to prison for 10 years. Under the plea bargain, Strong faces 270 days of detention in the Macon County Jail.

The sex acts were against the woman he was appointed to protect.
