JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- The Jackson-Madison County school board has indicated a willingness to pay more for a superintendent, but wants accountability built into the contract.
During a board meeting Thursday night, chairman David Clifft said he told a firm searching for a new superintendent that the board could approve a higher salary for the right person. But Clifft said the extra pay should be tied to better educational outcomes.
Board members had previously approved a starting salary of $150,000 annually.
The board voted to form a committee to decide on benchmarks that could bring the superintendent's pay to $180,000.
