Critical wounding, officer hurt, suspect arrested

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- One man has been shot, another arrested and a police officer injured in a Jackson shooting and police chase.

The Jackson Sun reported a Madison County deputy was following a sport utility vehicle late Saturday when he saw gunshots fired from the vehicle at a house. The deputy turned on his blue lights and the SUV took off.

Jackson Police said at least five people jumped out of the vehicle and ran before the driverless SUV rolled into the deputy's car, knocking him down.

A 26-year-old man who was shot in the chest when the gunfire broke out was airlifted to Memphis with a critical wound.

A police dog found 30-year-old Jameca Tipler hiding in the woods. He was scheduled to appear Tuesday on an attempted murder charge.
