Crossdressing robbery suspect talks

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - One of Lexington's most wanted, accused of robbing a Family Dollar Store, is now off the streets.

Deron Higgins turned himself into police Thursday morning, but not before calling our newsroom to give his side of the story.

The Sheriff's Department says Higgins robbed the Family Dollar on West New Circle Road in Lexington while dressed in drag. They say he put items inside his purse, and when the owner of the store tried to stop him, they say he punched her in the face.

Higgins admits he was at the Dollar Store the day of the robbery, but denies that he did anything wrong.

According to Higgins he has gotten into some trouble in the past, but says he has turned his life around.

Higgins says the mug shots that police used date back to 2009.
