DECATURVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Decatur County woman has been charged with injuring her 10-month-old daughter, who doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center say has severe compression and spinal injuries.
The child also was found to have broken ribs and was malnourished.
According to The Jackson Sun, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested 27-year-old Felecia Kaye Gray of Decaturville on Tuesday, charging her with child abuse and child neglect.
Investigators said Gray grabbed he daughter, Fiona Gray, around the waist on Jan. 5 and threw her violently into a crib. Three days later, at the insistence of family members, Gray took the child to Decatur County General Hospital.
The local prosecutor asked the TBI on Jan. 8 to investigate.
Gray remained in jail Wednesday with no record of an attorney.
