ERWIN, Tenn. (AP) -- Lawyers for former Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris have the floor at Harris' theft retrial after the state concluded its case.
Harris is being tried for a second time in Erwin on a charge of theft over $1,000 after the jury at his initial trial failed to reach a verdict and a mistrial was declared in August.
According to the Johnson City Press, prosecutors again presented testimony by a couple who owned two cars which are the crux of the case against Harris. Prosecutors claim Harris took $4,500 in county funds for vehicles that were donated to the county by the couple.
The defense began presenting witnesses on Wednesday.
