Development district acts against 2 officers

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Upper Cumberland Development District board has placed two of its officers on administrative leave for 30 days.

The board acted Friday in emergency session following reports on WTVF-TV in Nashville that agency funds had been spent on a million-dollar house in Putnam County amid other expenditures.

Wendy Askins and her deputy, Larry Webb, were placed on leave and had their credit and gas cards confiscated.

The board also asked attorneys to get $300,000 back from a questionable transfer of funds. Members additionally voted to seek bids for auditors and ask the comptroller and state accountancy board to investigate UCDD's auditor.
