MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities have charged a man after his dead dog was found frozen to the ground in Memphis after icy weather moved through.

According to The Commercial Appeal, 28-year-old Zangerio Dogan remained in jail with no bond set early Wednesday. He was charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

A police affidavit said the pit bull dog appeared extremely malnourished. The dog did not have appropriate shelter from the elements.

The dog was found at the home of Dogan's sister, who said she thought Dogan picked up the animal weeks ago. Dogan told police he hadn't seen or fed the dog in weeks and thought his sister was caring for it.

It wasn't clear when the dog died.
