Drug investigation at ETSU empties dorm

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Johnson City are investigating an incident that caused the evacuation of students from an East Tennessee State University apartment building.

A fire alarm sent campus police to the building Friday night and a public safety officer smelled marijuana. Officer Stacy Wiggand noted, in documents obtained by the Johnson City Press that a student who lived there consented to the apartment being searched and police found drug paraphernalia, a ledger with sales and weights of marijuana sold and $575 in cash. A small amount of marijuana was also found.

In subsequent searches, three other people were also charged.

Students were evacuated for a time early Sunday as the ongoing investigation found fertilizer, crystal pellets, propane tanks and assorted powders.
