ETSU athlete charged with filing false report

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- An East Tennessee State University spokesman says campus police are still investigating a reported campus robbery, although one allegation has proven false.

Two ETSU basketball players said three men burst into their campus apartment with guns Tuesday night, bound them and stole electronic gear and bank cards. Another player, who was not in the apartment, reported to campus police that the robbers had taken $1,300 that belonged to him.

That athlete was Sheldon Cooley, who police have now charged with filing a false report, according to The Johnson City Press, which quoted a university news release. Cooley has been suspended from the team.

The players who reported the robbery were Adam Sollazzo and J.C. Ward.

University spokesman Joe Smith said on Friday there is still an active investigation into the robbery.
