Eads woman pleads guilty to embezzlement

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- An Eads woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $1.5 million and faces up to 30 years in prison.

The Commercial Appeal reports that 47-year-old Karen Tripp was a bookkeeper for a Collierville construction company where she worked from 2006 to 2010.

Authorities say she diverted company checks intended for recipients into her own personal bank account. Tripp is scheduled to be sentenced in August. She will also be required to make restitution.

U.S. Attorney Ed Stanton said Tripp's actions "caused the demise of a reputable company."
