East Ridge to consider banning smoking at parks

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- The East Ridge City Council will be presented with two anti-smoking proposals.

According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, one of City Manager Tim Gobble's plans would limit tobacco use on city property to designated areas. The other would ban all smoking and snuff use on city property.

Both proposals would apply to the area around city buildings and include city parks.

Cities which have banned smoking in parks include only Johnson City in Tennessee, according to nonprofit Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights. More than 600 cities nationwide don't allow smoking in their parks.
