JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- East Tennessee State University will be an Olympic training site.
The United States Olympic Committee picked the university in Johnson City as the training site for weightlifting.
According to the Johnson City Press, ETSU will screen applicants to the center and Dr. Mike Stone, associate professor of exercise science, will design a specific training program for each athlete.
Stone is a two-time Olympian. He hopes to have athletes competing in the 2016 games.
He said the training site could be expanded to include additional sports, such as cycling.
Lifters selected for the program will enroll at ETSU as fulltime students.
