East Tennessee woman charged with lying about officer

MOUNT CARMEL, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Hawkins County have charged a Church Hill woman with making a false report about a city police officer.

Kristine Elizabeth Taylor is awaiting a March 14 court hearing on charges that include felony false report. Taylor claimed Mount Carmel Police Officer Bobby Moffitt, who arrested her on a domestic assault charge, was dealing drugs, according to the Kingsport Times-News. Taylor was held Monday at the Hawkins County Jail, which did not have records on whether inmates have attorneys.

Jailers said they found cash and prescription pills when they booked Taylor last month.

During questioning, Taylor accused Moffitt of dealing drugs which she claimed he took from people during traffic stops.

Police said Taylor contradicted herself repeatedly during questioning.
