Feds, state team up to fight crime in West Tenn.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors and the district attorney for five West Tennessee counties are teaming up to target career criminals.

U.S. Attorney for West Tennessee Edward Stanton said in a statement Tuesday that the partnership with District Attorney Mike Dunavant will lead to better coordination in efforts to catch violent drug and gun crime offenders in Fayette, Hardeman, Lauderdale, McNairy and Tipton counties.

The partnership includes the assignment of Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Gillis to the post of special assistant U.S. attorney. Gillis will be working cases from Fayette, Lauderdale and Tipton counties.

Also Tuesday, authorities announced the indictment of five men from Lauderdale and Tipton counties on cocaine possession and distribution charges.
