DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- A fire department in Dyer County is struggling to keep old vehicles running.
According to The State Gazette, some of the trucks were manufactured nearly 50 years ago.
The Dyer County Fire Committee heard from officials of the Trimble Fire Department and the Dyer County Fire Department last week.
Trimble Fire Chief John Gill told the committee a pumper truck central to a 1994 agreement between the department and the county is aging. Gill said the fire engine can pass the pump test, but it leaks. The agreement provided the department with the pumper in return for the Trimble department assisting in covering fire calls in the county.
Fire Capt. Cody Ray told the committee the truck is hard to start and noted that sometimes seconds mean lives.
