Firefighters battle large blaze near the NC, TN border

CHEROKEE, NC (WVLT)- Multiple agencies have spent the weekend battling a 50 acre fire near Cherokee, North Carolina, not far from the border with Tennessee.

The fire started Saturday night and according to officials with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, it is around 50 percent contained.

20 firefighters from the National Park and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are working to contain the blaze, between Big Cove Road and Raven Fork, which is inside the Park's boundaries.

So far, no reports of any structures being damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
