CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Clarksville police say a military police officer is charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend Christmas morning.
Police say 27-year-old Timothy Andrew Putnam of Clarksville, a military police officer at nearby Fort Campbell, Ky., along the Tennessee-Kentucky state line, was charged with criminal attempted homicide following the incident early Saturday morning.
The Leaf Chronicle of Clarksville says Putnam and 34-year-old Samantha Marie Miller had been arguing in their home when she was shot.
Police said she died later Saturday at Vanderbilt University Hospital, where she was taken for treatment of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police said Putnam is a member of the 561st Military Police Company.
Earlier this week at Fort Campbell, a fight between two soldiers resulted in one being charged with attempted murder and assault for stabbing a military police officer.
