NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A fundraiser has pulled in $150,000 for financial education for Tennessee elementary students.
The fundraising dinner benefits the Tennessee Financial Literacy Commission, and the money is earmarked for teacher training.
The commission was established in 2010 by the General Assembly as a nonprofit organization. Its mission is to train Tennesseans to make sound financial decisions on planning, saving and investing. That training begins at the elementary school level.
State Treasurer David Lillard said in a news release that the state will benefit from having citizens with a better financial education.
