NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Republican Gov.-elect has named Tennessee Army National Guard Col. Many-Bears Grinder as commissioner of the state Department of Veterans Affairs.
Haslam said Grinder's 35 years of military experience, which began as an enlisted solider, gives her a strong insight into veterans issues in Tennessee.
Grinder said in statement that she will miss wearing the uniform, but that she will be able to continue her "bond with service members, their families and survivors."
The 57-year-old Grinder previously served as director of logistics for the Tennessee Army National Guard in Nashville.
