KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) For the first time in history, Horse Haven of Tennessee is forced to close its doors to the public.
Veterinarians have confirmed that one of the horses has Strangles, which is a highly contagious upper respiratory infection.
To protect the remaining animals at the farm, and other horses outside the property, Horse Haven of Tennessee is under quarantine for the next five weeks.
Officials say the infected horse is not a newcomer, which suggests a visitor or volunteer unknowingly brought the bacteria to the farm.
