NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A proposal to eliminate hotel allowances for some Tennessee lawmakers has passed the House.
The measure sponsored by Republican Rep. Rick Womick of Murfreesboro was approved 71-15 on Monday. It would eliminate a $107-per-night hotel payment for the 33 legislators who live within 50 miles of the state Capitol.
The legislation would continue to provide a $66 daily meals allowance for all lawmakers.
The companion bill is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday in the Senate State and Local Government Committee. The Senate appears to be learning toward amendments that Womick has said would kill the bill.
