Jackson police investigating double shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- Jackson police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman hospitalized in critical condition.

Police say someone shot and killed 49-year-old Clinton Berry and wounded his 53-year-old girlfriend early Wednesday morning.

Berry and the woman were transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Berry was pronounced dead, and the woman was transported to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. She is currently in critical condition.

Officers say Berry and a man had a fight that started outside on the second floor of an apartment complex. The fight continued downstairs.

Berry then approached another man who was outside in the courtyard. The man fired shots, striking Berry and the woman.
