CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Hamilton County authorities have charged a corrections officer in an assault on a minor in custody.
Officer Robert Medford faces charges of aggravated assault, official repression and misdemeanor child abuse, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said the incident occurred Dec. 29 at the Hamilton County Jail when the juvenile sprayed a germicide liquid onto Medford.
Atkinson said Medford went into a cell and used an unauthorized hold on the juvenile.
Medford is free on bond and has been suspended without pay. It wasn't clear whether he has an attorney.
