Jasper may again use warning siren

Posted: Fri 12:28 PM, Feb 22, 2013

JASPER, Tenn. (AP) -- The city of Jasper is considering going back to old technology to warn residents of emergencies.

Fire Chief Chris Rector has asked the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to let him test the old siren downtown. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported the alarm hasn't sounded in more than a year.

Mayor Paul Evans said he's had questions from citizens about whether the siren still worked.

Rector wants to examine the siren for any obvious problems and then test it.

South Pittsburg recently again began using its siren for both severe weather and fires.
