KKK plans rally in Memphis over Confederate parks

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Klu Klux Klan has applied for a permit to hold a rally next month in Memphis over the decision to strip off Confederate names from Memphis city parks.

WMC-TV in Memphis reported Friday that the city received an application from the group and police said the group is planning a rally on March 30.

Chief Administrative Officer George Little said if approved, they will be treated like any other group.

The City Council voted last week to strip Nathan Bedford Forrest's name from the downtown park and call it Health Sciences Park. It also voted to rename Confederate Park as Memphis Park and Jefferson Davis Park as Mississippi River Park.
