KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- Kingsport police have shot and wounded a man who climbed onto the roof of a house and made threatening gestures.
According to the Kingsport Times-News, 25-year-old Jeffrey Chase Caldwell was shot once in the abdomen about two and a half hours into a standoff with police Tuesday morning.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed Caldwell's name, but declined to say what type of weapon he had.
Caldwell was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center and was scheduled to undergo surgery.
TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said there was an outstanding warrant for Caldwell relating to a theft at the home of his girlfriend's parents. They were out of town when the theft occurred.
The TBI is will turn over its investigation report to Sullivan County District Attorney Gen. Barry Staubus.
