Attorney: Co. Commissioner will plead not guilty to Indecent Exposure

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knox Co. Commissioner Jeff Ownby plans to plead not guilty to Indecent Exposure following his arrest late Thursday afternoon, according to a statement the Isaacs Law Firm, who he hired to represent him. Ownby also intends to seek counseling, his attorney added, asking the public to respect his family's privacy.

Ownby, 45, was arrested along with another man, 53 year-old John McCracken, after patrolling officers found them engaged in oral sex in Sharps Ridge Park around 4:30 p.m., according to the Knoxville Police Dept.

Police said neither man was trying to hide what he was doing. The arrest warrant for McCracken also noted he crossed into an area where a "No Trespassing" sign was posted, leading to an additional trespassing charge for him.

Ownby was charged with indecent exposure and was detained on a $500 bond. His court date is set for June 4th. McCracken was charged with indecent exposure and criminal trespass and was held under a $1000 bond.

Ownby represents the 4th District. His county profile said that he is married with two sons.
