NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee legislator who repeatedly asked the Department of Children's Services for information is calling for the commissioner's ouster.
State Rep. Sherry Jones is asking Gov. Bill Haslam to remove DSC Commissioner Kate O'Day.
Jones, a Democrat from Nashville, told The Tennessean that after two years with O'Day running the department, matters are getting worse. Jones said she heard nothing in O'Day's budget request last week that indicates a turnaround.
Haslam defended O'Day last week, saying she is smart and understands the needs of children receiving state services.
Jones said an increasing number of complaints about DSC coming into her office concern her.
