Lawsuit challenges Johnson City's annexations

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A lawsuit is challenging the constitutionality of Johnson City's annexation of an area of Gray and another pending annexation.

According to the Johnson City Press, it was filed recently by several residents and Alan Woodruff, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Phil Roe for the 1st Congressional District seat in the November election.

The lawsuit concerns the recent annexation of the Suncrest Drive area of Gray and the city's pending annexation of the Bobby Hicks Highway/Airport Road area.

It points out that several statutes related to annexation in Tennessee don't define certain terms, making them vague and ambiguous.

A representative for the city said notice of the lawsuit hadn't been received and couldn't comment.
