LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The wife of Lenoir City Mayor Tony R. Aikens has found new hope today. Vanderbilt Hospital found a matching donor for her much-needed bone marrow transplant. Mrs. Aikens was diagnosed with MDS Syndrome several months ago and has been looking for a donor since then.
Mayor Aikens says he appreciates the community's prayers and support for his wife and family.
Mrs. Aikens will undergo more testing while the family vows to stay strong throughout the journey. The transplant should occur by the first of the year.
