Life in prison for Memphis man in woman's shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Memphis man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing an 18-year-old woman and wounding two others at a birthday gathering.

The Shelby County district attorney's office says 40-year-old James Williams was convicted Friday of murder in Kawanda Wainwright's death. He was sentenced Saturday to life with the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors said Williams shot Wainwright during an argument at his home during a family birthday party. Two others were injured, including a 6-year-old.

Williams was also convicted of attempted murder and using a gun in a felony.
